Happy Monday! This week on A College Series Shannon and I are talking all about our favorite planners we use in college and how we use them. Ever since Sophomore year of high school I have been using the Lilly Pulitzer 17 month Agenda. They release each years Agenda around the first week in June. My cousin and I are starting on planner number 7 this August. Each year when the come out I give her one for her birthday and we have matching ones! The only difference is this year I got the Jumbo size and she wanted the large.
Sizing:
Lilly’s planners come in 3 sizes, jumbo, large and medium. They really are my favorite planners and I have found that the large has been perfect for me in the past. The only reason I went up to the jumbo was because I am starting grad school. I want just a little more room to write everything I have to do. The jumbo is the size of a typical notebook and the large is more the size of your typical planner. The Jumbo still fits perfectly in all the different bags I switched between during the school year.
Organizing my Planner:
With my new planner I love how perfect and clean it looks when it arrives. A blank slate full of possibilities. When it comes to organizing my planner I start with pulling out last years and going month by month writing in all the birthdays. I write them small at the bottom of the day in a fine tip black pen.
Next I go back through and write down and major events I know that are set over the next 12 months weddings, showers, graduations, etc. Typically in a black pen as well.
Once birthdays and important dates are in the planner I pull up my school calendar and write in the start of each semester, days off, advisement week, finals. I also add any other important dates I will need for the upcoming school year. This is also done in a simple black pen. I find that using a black pen for all this information keeps in cleanly organized once all the color coated class information gets added.
Once all that is done I wait until I get my syllabuses or other plans that need to be marked down so I do not forget.
Class Organization:
Next when I get all my syllabuses I assign each class a color. I then fill in all the important dates for that class throughout the semester. I write down the due date of assignments, projects and any exams that I have for each class that semester. Obviously things change but in that case I use white out and just fix it up. I like to be able to see the whole semester and what I have for each class all in once place. Then I know when my busier weeks are compared to my less busy weeks. It makes the semester a little more manageable to know when the busy weeks are coming way before they arrive.
As for the daily section of the planner I use this to created to-do list for each day and the weekends. In order to make sure I do not forget anything I need to do.
This planner has all things necessary for a great planner and doesn’t over complicate things. It has the month lay out followed by the weekly pages. It is very user friendly making it one of the main reasons I purchase a new one each year. The planner comes with 17 different Lilly Pulitzers water color paintings as the month dividers which bring you some summer fun even in the dead of winter.
Fun Extras:
The Lilly Pulitzer planners have fun little extras that go along with it! Each planner has 2 full pages of stickers, a section for packing list (for when we can travel again!), and a notes section! It also includes a section for phone numbers and address which I rarely use but it is nice to have!
Organization is one of the most important things needed for college and I find these planners from Lilly to be cute, fashionable but also extremely easy to use. They definitely help keep my life organized. At the end of the day I keep going back to these planner, they are definitely my favorite planners out there!
