As the world prepares to start up a new school year in the coming weeks, it is going to look extremely different than it ever has. Some school are in person, some are online and some are both. Personally I am completely online this fall. My 5 classes and clinic will all take place online through Zoom or what ever platform the professor chooses. I never imagined my Senior year of college would be online college but it is what it is, as I keep telling myself.
This past spring I learned a lot of dos and don’t for online college so this week Shannon and I are sharing what we learned this past spring in hopes it makes your online learning experience this fall a little less stressful.
Do’s and Don’ts
Do: have a space to study and attend class
Don’t: attend class from your bed or do all your work in bed. It’s healthy to have a separation from where you sleep and study. It will allow your brain to keep them separate and help you sleep better at night.
Do: Create a schedule, even if it’s just a rough one.
Don’t: get frustrated when your schedule does not go as planned, there is always tomorrow.
Do: Stay organized
Do: Allow time for other things besides school. Make time to eat dinner with your family or go on a walk with the dog or watch a show.
Don’t: hole yourself away and only work on school in your room all day, you will go crazy. Make time to get outside and see friends and family.
Do: allow time on the weekends to close the books and go on an adventure
Don’t: spend your whole weekend inside doing school work
Do: allow yourself time to workout and do the things you enjoy
Don’t: do your work with the TV on or in common areas of the house with lost of Distractions
Do: work with your friends and call them when you need help or go see them if you can
Don’t: shut out all your classmates just because you aren’t around them. Find creative ways work together to learn as much as you can
Do: keep your computer charger and anything you could possible need for class near you so you don’t have to run around looking for it.
Do: get dressed at least a little for class
Don’t: go to class in your PJs, you will just feel sleepy. Change out of your pjs in to a new lounge wear outfit to at least make your self feel al little put together.
Online College is a lot different than in person normal college, I feel like their is a lot more personal responsibility then in person. I also feel that it is a lot harder to connect with the teachers and your classmates. I think this semester full of online learning will be a learning curve for everyone involved but it will also be a lot different than the spring. This full semester of online learning will be full of challenges. I am nervous but excited for a new semester full of learning and personal growth.
What are you most nervous for when it comes to online learning?
