My family and I recently took a trip to Bermuda. Below you will find my full review and recommendations. We flew out on a Sunday and returned Thursday evening, it was the perfect amount of time and from the New York area the flight was under 2 hours. Bermuda is an island off the coast of North Carolina, it is a British territory so cars drive on the left side of the road and the queens picture is everywhere.
Travel day:
Our flight was at 11am and got into Bermuda around 2 local time. There is a 1 hour time difference from the east coast. After customs, we finally got a taxi and head to the hotel. Once we arrived at the hotel we changed and went to find something to eat. We stated at the Hamilton Princess in Hamilton. It had 2 restaurants, so we headed to the more causal one since it was still too early for the mail dinning room. Following dinner we jumped back in a taxi and head 20 minutes away to meet my parents friends for drinks. It was funny seeing them. There hotel was different then ours but still cool. Once we got back to the hotel we headed to bed, we were tired after a long day of travel.
Day 1:
One thing I really wanted to do was ride a horse on the beach so Monday morning my mom and I got up super early and head to ride. Our ride was at 7:30 am. It was about a 4 mile ride through Bermuda, only about 10 minute of it was on the beach but it was still a cool experience. The ride was harder then your typical trail ride, very hilly and lots on the road where the horses slipped a little. The leader was chatty and very knowledgeable about horses and Bermuda but sometimes he got to be a little much.
Following the ride, we headed back to the hotel where my dad had already saved us some seats by the pool. I got in my bathing suit and grabbed my book and we just relaxed by the pool the rest of the afternoon. I had tacos for lunch poolside and anything poolside is instantly 10x better.
Following out time by the pool we headed into Hamilton to do some shopping. Lots of cute little stores. The classic forest tee shirt stores and then some unique stores. The only international Vineyard Vines is located here which was cool, I picked up a baseball hat and a tee shirt.
That night for dinner we ate at the hotels main dinning room, they were having a trivia night. We finished in the middle, some of the questions were difficult. It was fun! Definitely my moms favorite part!
Day 2:
The next day we got up and got the first shuttle to head to the beach for the day. The shuttle was so cute, it was pink much like most things at the hotel. We grabbed breakfast from The Duchess which was a coffee shop with in the hotel, it was so cute. Once at the beach we claimed some chairs and I headed for a swim, the water was so clear, it was insane. I proceeded to attempt to sit in the hammock in the ocean but didn’t center my self correctly and end up falling out. Oops! My mom and I did some exploring to see more parts of the beach. It was really pretty. Bermuda is very rocky and everything is built into and around the rocks.
We had lunch that day at the beach club restaurant and I ordered a salad with a hamburger patty on it and they waitress thought it was such an odd request. It was very tasty! Following the beach we headed to the pool for a little longer before getting ready for dinner.
Day 3:
The forecast didn’t look great today so we opt to stay by the pool incase it rained. I swam, read by book and just relaxed it was exactly what I needed for the last day of the trip. After the pool we headed back into town to do some shopping and finally it started to rain so we got a little wet but since it was so warm we didn’t mind. My dad’s knee was bothering him so he stayed at the hotel. This night we went to Huckleberry for dinner and it was the best meal we had! My dad and I had the steak and my mom had the fish and it was delicious. Huckleberry was farm/sea to table making everything very fresh and taste. If you are in Bermuda this is a must stop!
Day 4: Travel Day
Last day, we headed to the breakfast and then to check out. We over estimated the time needed at the airport and was there way to soon. We could have gone to the pool for a few hours and headed out later in the day. We got to the airport before the baggage check was even open yet. We wanted back in Newark around 5:15 and then off the plane by 6 and head home for some Pizza!
Outfits:
During this trip my main goal was to be comfortable and cute. If I wasn’t in a bathing suit I was in a smocked dress. Having longer dresses was nice because it got a little chilly in the evenings. The Summer Salt bathing suit is a new favorite for bathing suits, slightly more expensive then I typically spend on bathing suits but worth it! As for the rest of the trip the Nap dress was perfect. I planned on taking a lot more outfit pictures but got caught up with just enjoying the trip!
Overall thoughts:
Bermuda is a must go, it’s a shorter flight than Florida from the New York area. It is beautiful and warm but you have to go May-September since it does get cold their in the winter. I enjoyed when we went since it was just the start of the tourist season, so it was super busy yet. The island is over all pretty safe and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Bermuda makes a great family trip like I was on but it would also be a great girls trip.
With love by the Sea,
