This weekend I went to Holland Ridge Farms to see all the beautiful sunflowers they planted. Similar to the tulips you purchase your tickets online (here) and select a three hour window for you to entire the farm. The big difference between my two trips to the farm was this time when you purchased your tickets you could pick any time, whereas in the spring the times were 9, 12 and 3. This caused for traffic jams since all guests were arriving at the same time. This time traffic jams were not a problem and at all. Getting into the farm was so much smoother and every part of the farm seemed less busy.
How it works:
When you arrive to the sunflower farm have your ticket ready on your phone to show when you walk in the entrance. As you entire there is the first photo opportunity. It is a beautiful flower wall, the line was a little long so we did not stop but if you feel like waiting it is a great opportunity for a picture. Continue in to the farm and you can pick up a bucket and then a little father up the way is a pile of clippers. The clippers are huge but definitely needed in order to pick any sunflowers. Once you have your bucket and clippers you are ready to head out and explore all the sunflowers.
With in the sunflower fields there are many opportunities for some really great photos, with props and just amongst the sunflowers. It is important to note there are a lot of bees around the sunflowers but they seemed preoccupied with the flowers and not interested in the humans. There are also white sunflowers which make a for a gorgeous backdrop for photos, especially if you hold a few yellow ones! As you walk through there are rows and rows of mums that are growing and starting to bloom. Lastly amongst the sunflowers there are pockets of wildflowers full of color that are gorgeous and whimsical allowing for more options as you pick out some flowers.
After your time in the field:
Following your time amongst the flowers you can return the clippers as you head to check out. It is $1 a flower, which is a pretty good deal to me! On top of all the flower excitement there are food trucks if you are looking for some food. But my personal favorite part of the entire farm is the Bakery barn, it is full of so many delicious treats. During my time there this weekend I picked up some apple cider donuts.
Pictures:
Overall my day at the sunflowers was so much fun and if you are local to Holland Ridge Farms it is definitely worth the trip. If you are not, get together some friends and find a sunflower farm near you and have a fun afternoon.
